The 4th BOit! International Illustration Contest is an artistic event hosted in Bologna, Italy, designed to celebrate illustration, promote creativity, and encourage international cultural dialogue. Open to emerging visual artists, illustrators, and creatives worldwide, the competition annually presents a unique thematic challenge inspired by the rich heritage and urban landscape of Bologna. In its fourth edition, the contest explores the evocative theme "The City and Water," inviting participants to visually articulate the intricate, symbolic, and essential relationships that cities have historically forged with water, highlighting its role in shaping civilizations and urban life.
Through compelling and original illustrations, entrants are encouraged to interpret the profound connections between urban environments and water sources, encompassing rivers, canals, streams, and fountains. The theme encourages visual storytelling that can range from literal depictions inspired by Bologna’s own hidden waterways and the iconic "finestrella" overlooking the historic Moline Canal, to imaginative representations that resonate globally. Participants have the freedom to use diverse artistic techniques and media, reflecting the contest’s inclusive spirit and commitment to innovation in illustration.
This contest not only offers artists an esteemed international platform to showcase their talent but also fosters professional growth and networking opportunities. The selected illustrations will feature in prominent exhibitions and digital showcases, providing significant exposure to artists and their work. By engaging artists in thoughtful reflection on universally relevant themes, the BOit! International Illustration Contest strengthens Bologna’s position as a vibrant cultural hub, bridging local tradition with global creativity.
The entry fee is €15.00, with a reduced fee of €10.00 available for students enrolled in art schools or universities.
Eligibility
Open worldwide to everyone aged 18 or older by the contest deadline.
Prize
Three winning works will be awarded: the "Water and the City" award, which includes a cash prize of €800.00; the "Solo Exhibition" award, offering a solo show of a creative project; and the "Belle Arti" award, providing a €200.00 voucher for art supplies and materials. Additionally, 30 finalist works will be selected for exhibition, and the winners will be announced during the awards ceremony and the inauguration of the exhibition in Bologna by 2026.
