To reflect the lasting significance and worldwide impact of

’s efforts to advance equality, diversity and social justice, the

invites artists and designers to create and enter an original design for a monument that embodies his spirit and important contributions to world peace.

The monument will be constructed of granite, bronze, or a combination thereof, and will reside at

in San Mateo, California.

The promoters of this contest envision a memorial that will support the education and inspiration of our youth, initiating the kind of dialogue and activism that will ensure

’s legacy continues to drive positive change.

Conceptual designs must be intended for permanent outdoor placement. Each design submission should include at least one, but no more than three views of a proposed design. Acceptable file types include PDF, GIF, JPEG, PNG. There is a maximum size of five megabytes for each attachment.
