The World Sports Photography Awards 2027 celebrates outstanding sports photography from around the world. Sponsored by Canon, the international awards recognise images that capture the action, emotion, athleticism and defining moments found across sport.
Photographers are invited to submit their strongest sports images across a broad range of disciplines, from football, athletics and cycling to motorsport, swimming, tennis, winter sports and more. Entries are judged by leading figures from sport, media, photography, branding and the creative industries, with judging focused on technical skill, diversity, originality and creative composition.
The 2027 edition continues the Canon partnership and includes the Canon Emerging Talent Award alongside the main competition. For photographers documenting everything from grassroots sport to elite competition, the awards provide an international platform dedicated specifically to the craft and visual storytelling of sports photography.
Entry fee: Free to enter; no entry fee is charged for up to 10 images.
Eligibility
Open to professional, semi-professional and amateur sports photographers and specialist sports photographic agencies worldwide, except those involved in organising the awards; entrants may submit up to 10 camera-made images taken between December 2025 and November 2026, images entered in the 2026 competition are ineligible, synthetic or AI-generated images and generative AI edits are prohibited, and the Canon Emerging Talent Award is restricted to photographers under 25.
Prize
Prizes are provided by sponsors of the World Sports Photography Awards; specific prize items or values for the 2027 edition have not yet been published. Winners will be notified by email and announced on the World Sports Photography Awards website and social media channels.
