promotes the power of photojournalism to give voice to social injustice, to respect history lest we forget it and to understand cultural difference as our strength - not our weakness.
Through grants, scholarships and special projects, the
Alexia Foundationsupports photographers as agents for change. With this aim the Foundation offers production grants to
studentsand
professional photographersto give them the financial ability to produce substantial stories that drive change in the effort to make the world a better place.
The Foundation welcomes proposals for
still photographyor
multimedia projects.
Student applicantsare encouraged to consider projects that explore cultural understanding in or near their local community. While the Foundation does not discourage proposals on topics outside the students’ region, no extra weight is given to these topics when determining winning Grant recipients. Rather, the Foundation believes applicants are more likely to complete a story closer to their school or home than one that requires travel.
Please note, the application deadline for the professional grant is
January 29, 2015. Student grant deadline is
February 2, 2015.
There is a $50 fee for professional grant applications.
No entry fee for student applications.
Eligibility

Professional Grants: Photographers and visual journalists from any country may apply for this Grant. Proposals for projects that have already received grants or awards of more than $1,000 in the previous calendar year are not eligible.

Student Grants: Applicants must be duly enrolled full-time students in an accredited college or university in the U.S. or abroad in a degree program at the time of application as either graduate or undergraduate students.
Prize
•
Student Awards: Grants are given for First Place, Second Place and, at judges’ discretion, Award(s) of Excellence. Grants do vary between undergraduate and graduate students. Students also get scholarship opportunities.
•
Professional Award: The professional Grant recipient will receive $20,000 for the production of the proposed project.
